An Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) is an analytical instrument used to measure the concentration of specific elements in a sample. It operates by atomizing the sample (usually in a flame or graphite furnace) and measuring the absorption of light at a wavelength characteristic of the element of interest. The intensity of the absorbed light correlates with the element's concentration in the sample. AAS is widely used in fields such as environmental analysis, clinical diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, and food safety to detect trace metals like lead, copper, zinc, and mercury.
